Cathay Pacific axes Dragon brand and 6,000 jobs

Cathay Pacific plans to slash 6,000 jobs and the Cathay Dragon brand. These cuts include a large number of cadets.

Cathay acknowledges that the road ahead is uncertain and these cuts will make them competitive in the future. The cadet program will be on hold for the foreseeable future and could be quite sometime before it returns.

Cathay Dragon’s routes will be merged into mainline.

We will try to get a statement from Cathay about future cadet projections and current layoff numbers.

Singapore Airlines no longer taking applications

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, Singapore Airlines has stopped accepting Pilot applications, including Cadets.

There’s no indication of when this may resume but the guess is that it will be a long time away. The aviation industry is in for an extended recovery and airlines will come out much slimmer than before. This does not necessarily mean that there will no longer be a need for cadets, it just means the numbers may be fewer.

The airline has however, recently raised US$8 billion which secures it’s financial future.

We will keep you updated on when Singapore Airlines have started accepting cadet applications once more.

Stay safe!
