To be eligible for the cadet pilot program, a candidate must have completed year 12. Other than that, it will cost you a whopping $98,000 but can be significantly be reduces with a grant from them that gets ‘forgiven’ if you stay with them for seven years. Training is only 32 weeks but is dependent on the individual cadet.

Seems simple enough for someone trying to get their foot into the aviation game.

The Dragonair Pilot Cadet Program, just like the Cathay Pacific Pilot Cadet Program, was designed to give the opportunity to the average person with a passion for aviation the chance to become a pilot for Dragonair. Unlike the Cathay Pacific Pilot Cadet Program, you will take on the rank of First Officer after the completion of training rather than Cathay’s Second Officer tier.

Qantas Link is Australia’s premier regional airline operating a fleet of 43 aircraft including the Bombardier Dash 8 Q400. Upon successful completion of the program, an applicant can expect to become a Qantas Link First Officer. Just like any other Pilot Cadet Program, this was designed for applicants that did not qualify for the competitive Direct Entry scheme. That being said, this program is by far one of the more competitive ones but it is very cheap compared to the others.

The minimum requirements for this program are:

Education

• Higher School Certificate (documentation required), with passes in Maths and English (approved bridging courses will be considered)
• Tertiary studies are highly desirable but not essential.

Age/Residency/Passport

• Applicants must be 18 years old;
• Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Residents or New Zealand Citizen (documentation required);
• Hold and maintain a current Australian or New Zealand passport with access to all Qantas ports.

Licensing

• Australian Commercial Pilot Licence; and,
• Australian Air Transport Pilot theory subjects.
• New Zealand applicants must have converted their licence/ratings to an Australian Licence/Rating prior to applying for a position with the Trainee program.

Experience

• Multi-Engine Command Instrument Rating with all navaids including DME/GPS Arrival (RNAV/GNSS preferred but not required)
• Hold a Basic Enroute GPS Qualification (CAO 40.2.1, Appendix IV, Section 1 – log book stamp required).
• 100 hrs as Pilot in Command.
• Preference will be given to candidates with recent flying experience.

Medical

• Current CASA Class 1 Aviation Medical certificate.
• Pass a Pre Employment Drug and Alcohol Test

Security

• Ability to hold a Qantas Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)^.

Language

• Hold a Level 6 English Proficiency Language (EPL) test pass as required by CASA.

The Qantas Airways Cadet Pilot Program provides applicants with four different university and flying based programs depending on your level of experience.

Qantas has strict minimum requirements which includes:

• Have Australian Permanent Residency status;
• Eligibility to hold a passport with unrestricted access;
• Hold a current CASA Class 1 Medical Certificate by 15 September 2009;
• Be 17 years or older as at 1 October 2009.
• A pass in Year 12 English, OR a pass in a suitable humanities/social science type subject at Degree level; and
• A pass in a suitable Year 12 Mathematics subject, OR a pass in a suitable Degree level Mathematics subject;
  OR
• A fully completed Bachelor Degree in any discipline;
• Be currently completing the relevant Year 12 subjects or other education criteria.

The Emirates Airlines National Cadet Programme is open to to United Arab Emirates Nationals only and provides a very attractive benefits package. It is no secret that money is not a problem to some Middle Eastern countries so imagine the benefits that comes with this program.

Emirates uses this program to mould the perfect Professional Pilot with a training program spanning over four years! The program is an ‘ab initio’ program which allows applicants to apply with little to no flying experience. Emirates, just like Cathay Pacific Airways, operate a fleet of wide body aircraft and is the airline with the largest Boeing 777 fleet.

The minimum requirements to be eligible for this program:

• A valid UAE passport and Khulasat Al Qaid (Family book)
• 17-29 years
• Minimum: Grade 12 secondary school certificate
• Good command of written and spoken English
• Medically fit

The Cadet Program in Denver is called the Denver Public Safety Cadet Program. The Denver Cadet Program allows you to work 25 hours per week during the school period and 39 hours per week during the summer months.

This cadet program will provide you with the foundation needed if you decide to pursue the career of a Police Officer, Fire Fighter, or Deputy Sheriff upon completion of school.

The eligibility requirements are:

• High School Diploma
• Citizen of the United States
• No illegal drug use within one year prior to application
• Possess a valid driver’s license
• Must meet minimum acceptance qualifications for Metro State College of Denver or University of Colorado at Denver
• Must have no more than two years of college education completed.

Become one of New York’s Finest with the NYPD Cadet Program. The job of a New York City police officer is probably one of the most challenging in the world but with the skills you obtain from the program, it would be manageable.

To even be considered for the program, a candidate must:

• Be at least 18 years old
• Be a resident of New York
• Be a full time college student with at least 45 credits.
• Be clear of any felony convictions
• Be a United States citizen or permanent resident

NYPD Cadet Program Forum

The Jetstar Airways Pilot Cadet Program is a great one for those wanting a First Officer position on an Airbus A320. Jetstar Airways is a subsidiary of Qantas and operates as Australia’s domestic low cost carrier. Jetstar also has international services using their Airbus A330 fleet and future Boeing 787 when their orders are fulfilled.

They offer two schemes for applicants. Applicants with little or no experience can apply for the Ab Initio Program which runs about 18 months in Victoria, Australia or for 65 weeks if done in New Zealand. The second is the Advanced Cadet Program which is 3 months and is geared towards pilots who already holds licenses and ratings.

In order to be eligible for the program, the applicant must have the right to work and live in Australia. The cost of the program is around $87,000 Australian Dollars and repayable direct from your salary upon your selection for employment.

The program is very clear cut to anyone wanting to fly for Jetstar. We do not see any hidden agendas when it comes to this program.
